Featuring Hawaiian Music and Dance with w/ world renowned
Hula School Hālau o Keikiali`i
Hawai`i comes to Idaho, February 21 & 22! The Riverside Hotel’s Sapphire Room presents Kawika Alfiche, acclaimed Hawaiian Recording Artist, and his school Hālau o Keikiali`i for an evening of traditional and modern Hawaiian music and dance. Special guest Steven Kanahe Espaniola, a celebrated slack key guitarist and falsetto singer, will also perform. Experience Hawaiian culture through dance, music, and storytelling at this one-night-only event in Boise. Kumu Kawika Alfiche and his hula school have performs internationally, including on Broadway in New York City with a New York Times review.
Classes are also being offered on Feb 21 (Sat) 12-6pm at the Riverside Hotel. Come join in and learn the art of Hula, Lei Making and `Ukulele.

THE ARTISTS
Kumu Hula and Musical Artist Kawika Keikiali`i Alfiche has released 4 cd’s since 2005, 2 singles and a 5th cd on its way. Kawika is a songwriter, composer and enjoys arranging all of his music. You will hear the traditional Hawaiian music as well as a sound of today with songs written very recently. He tours throughout the globe sharing his music and hula.
Steven Kanahe Espaniola, raised in Aliamanu, Hawai’i and now residing in the California Bay Area, is a self taught multi-instrumentalist Hawaiian artist specializing in Ki Ho’alu (Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar), ‘Ukulele, Upright Bass, and Leo Ki’e Ki’e (Traditional Hawaiian falsetto). Of Hawaiian, Filipino, Chinese and Spanish descent, his ethnicity is as diverse as his unique sound which preserves the integrity of the traditional with a flourish of the modern.
THE GROUP
Hālau o Keikiali`i (HK) is a traditional Hālau Hula (Hula school) formed in 1994 who’s main focus is to educate the masses via Hawaiian music, dance, chant, language, story-telling, arts, crafts and more. HK has schools in San Francisco, Sacramento, Mexico and Japan. HK travels throughout the globe to perform and teach classes and workshops in all aspects of Hawaiian Culture. Under the direction of their Kumu Kawika Keikiali`i Alfiche who is a Kumu Hula (Hula Master) who went through the traditional graduation process (`Uniki) with his Kumu, Rae Kahikilaulani Fonseca who `Uniki from his Kumu, George Lanakilakeikiahiali`i Na`ope, both of Hilo Hawai`i. HK currently has 4 DVD’s published of Hula dramas which will available at the concert. One highlighted tour was in New York, HK has a very nice write up from the NY Times, please see attached.
CONCERT VENUE
Boise’s premier listening room is the best kept secret between Austin and Portland. With intimate seating for 150 guests, a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, and regular performances by local and touring artists, this room is the gem of local music lovers. The Sapphire Room offers tableside service with a full bar and dinner menu during every performance. All ages, family friendly.
